Camille Mitchell is an Architect with SvN Architects + Planners and a speaker at IDS Toronto. Her work spans award-winning projects from interior design to master planning. Camille is also Chair of Black Architecture and Interior Design (BAIDA).

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting their career?
Start building your professional network as soon as possible.

What is the most inspiring object in your studio/home office?
Aloe plant (home office).

What has been the biggest change in your work since you started designing?
Started in the era of manual drafting, blueprints and fax machines.

What skill would you like to master?
Artificial Intelligence.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
archeologist.

If you had unlimited Lego, what would you build?
A mobile, colourful and grand Carnival costume.

If you had to pick your top 1 or 2 colours from the whole colour spectrum, what would they be?
White and cognac.

Bauhaus or Art Deco?
Art Deco.

If you could live anywhere, where would you live and why?
Miami - nice weather plus a Caribbean vibe.

What is your dream project or collaboration?
A dressing room for Beyoncé.

Favourite piece of furniture in your home or studio?
Lenny Kravitz x CB2 Paseo Carved Wood Media Console.

Favourite music artist to work to?
Kes the Band.

What was your first job?
Popcorn hawker at Ivor Wynne Stadium for Hamilton Ti-Cat games.

What fruit is best designed…explain.
Banana - slow reveal, comes with a handle, colour is cheerful and indicates freshness.

If you could redesign any well-known landmark, which one would it be?
Captain John's Harbour Boat.
