This time we spoke to Chad Burton, a multifaceted stylist and writer, based in Toronto, who works across interiors and fashion. Chad spoke on the Keynote stage at IDS 2024, in a Globe & Mail panel discussion on “Living in the Multiverse”.

As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
A Dentist.

What was your first job?
Dishwasher at a Fried Chicken restaurant.

What is your favourite piece of stationery that you can’t live without?
Any notebook, preferably a Moleskin.

What is the most inspiring object in your studio?
Currently some candle charms I picked up in Madrid.

What’s your favourite thing about your studio?
My cat.

What is your favourite piece of furniture in your studio?
The ceramic lamp I made.

What skill would you like to master?
Ceramics.

What has been the biggest change in your work since you started designing?
Moving from fashion to interiors.

What do you think is misunderstood about the design industry?
That it is always glamorous.

What fruit is best designed?
Banana - elegance, ease to open.

A book that changed your outlook?
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.

Your dream work chair?
Up chair by Gaetano Pesce.
