Design Thinking
Over the last 20+ years, IDS has become both a catalyst and authority for Canadian design. During those two decades, we’ve witnessed a lot of change. Yesterday’s designer has become today’s problem solver and tomorrow’s visionary. Designers now create experiences at the intersection of technological and social problems, imagining new roads to alternative realities. As these imagined futures come into view, so does a vision that is exciting and full of promise.
As Canada’s premier showcase of new products, superstar designers, and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond, IDS is the platform to experience the importance of design firsthand, uncovering not just what’s new and what’s next, but taking part in the larger conversation around design. Experiential and transformative, we bring together compelling concepts, innovative products, upcoming talent and key experts in the industry so you can be inspired by the best of the future.
History
In January 1999, the first Interior Design Show opened its doors to an enthusiastic design community, media world and consumer market. An important milestone for Canada’s design scene, the first show brought together 25,000 visitors, who came to see Wallpaper* magazine founder Tyler Brulé, Droog’s Gijs Bakker and furniture designer Holly Hunt.
After 25 years, the Interior Design Show has become one of the most successful recurring design events in Canadian history and over the years has inspired over 660,000 visitors. Attendance has almost doubled since the show’s inception, and international designers and architects travel from around the world to stand on the IDS main stage. The Interior Design Show has established itself as the breeding ground for design creativity, innovation and inspiration, bringing together hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors each year.
In 2012, the Interior Design Show was purchased by Informa, the largest publically-owned organizer of exhibitions, expositions and training events in the world. With 150 offices in 40 countries, Informa brings together over a million professionals each year. The newly formed Informa Canada manages over 53 tradeshows, consumer shows and conferences around the country, serving the construction, real estate, craft, art and design markets.
Exhibition, speaking, feature participation, and sponsorship opportunities for IDS Vancouver 2024 and IDS Toronto 2025 are now available.
